re-tipping a cue

I am just new to using tips that are cemented on instead of screw on and I was wondering how to do it and what sort of equipment I would need to get the job done? :)

Screw on tips are the lowest level of all tips.
When installing new tips the inportant things to remember are --
1. Prep the shaft end -- be sure the end is flat and perpendicular to the long axis of the shaft.
2. Prep the glue side of the tip -- be sure it's scuffed and flat.
The tip diameter should be slightly larger than the shaft diameter.
For adhesive I only use Locktite® Quicktite Gel or 454 Gel.
3. Assure the tip is centered on the shaft end. Wipe off excess Gel after about 30 seconds. Let it set up for a few minutes before continuing.
4. Carefully trim the tip to the ferrule -- DO NOT damage the ferrule.
5. Burnish the new tip.
6. Shape the new tip to your desired radius.
Those "kits" you can buy don't help much for any of the above steps.
I have a Willard's and a lathe I use for customer cue repair and my own cues.

If you have a local repairman nearby that has a lathe get him to put on your tip for you and save the money for a do it yourself kit. You will like the results so much better that you will wish you used him years ago.

Qualified local guys yes. I have two guys, neither of which should be allowed to do a tip. I do a better job by hand. Just takes a bit of patience to get good results.
