Reason for “expensive “ chalk

Did any of you happen to hear the conversation albin ouschan had about chalk use. Svb had a few skids in the finals and one cost him a game. The other gentlemen commented he saw svb have three in another match he did. Albin said he never has skids anymore since not using masters (said he hadn’t used masters since he was 17 lol) and considering svb was one of the only pros left using masters and no one else is having problems with balls skidding the masters chalk is the common denominator. 🤷‍♂️ just food for thought I guess. Again use whatever you like but it’s just a view I didn’t have about it before hearing that.
Oh and I don’t think it’s expensive. As I’ve stated before all the money we blow on silly stuff in life $20 for a piece of chalk that lasts me about 18 months is the least of my financial worries. The fact that we pay 1000s for a cue or leather case to carry it but complain about a $20 piece of chalk is ridiculous lol

Also I know I’m gonna get the well svb still won. yeah… he’s svb. You and I are not lol so any little edge or piece of confidence helps imo
 
I have started getting lots of miscues lately with Toam Pyro and have gone back to Triangle chalk. My cueball looks like it has a strange disease but see no weird reactions.

That is THE reason that everyone talks about as to why people use Taom. Occasionally you’ll hear people say they can get more spin; they’re probably the same people who say their carbon fiber cue gets them more spin.

I have seen people who miscue more often with Taom, so that might be a reason someone like SVB would stick with Masters. I don’t think most people have a problem, but who knows, maybe if you’re used to getting further out on the ball, the Taom miscues more. There must be a trade-off between less “stickiness” and more miscues vs more stickiness, fewer miscues, but more skids.
 
I may have misheard but Albin said most guys use cleaner chalk "like predator or even Kamui"

I know he's sponsored by them and all but wowwww man in my experience predator chalk is horrendously messy (haven't used their new extra super duper premium stuff)

As a table owner - I will never use messy chalk again

After Shane got so bothered with skids today will he come out with a fresh Taom deal?? Doubtful, but it's a neat theory.

He’s talking about the new predator chalk which I believe is taom. Your right the old predator chalk was messy as hell.

There are several reasons people get skids or miscues that have nothing to do with the chalk they're using.

It could be that they are not chalking enough, or they're playing with a dirty CB, or just playing an opponent that likes to push all the balls with around with their cue tip, leaving chalk marks on the object balls.

Yeah he definitely asked for the cue ball cleaned before most 8 balls like he knows it’s an issue.

I was in your camp -- until a friend gave me a piece of Taom.

I used Masters for years and years and then he gave me a piece of Pyro. That was back in May and as of today, I'm still using the same piece of chalk. That's chalking before *every* shot as part of my PSR and playing almost every day. I figure it still has a couple of months left.

But let's put aside the longevity of the chalk and also the fact the table and your cue and bridging hand stays sooooooo much cleaner.

I've gotten way fewer skids and miscues with it but will admit to polishing a nice set the balls every day and usually playing guys who know better than to nudge the balls around with their cue tip. I also don't play 9ball, so I'm not playing with a CB that has been torn up by phenolic tips which, BTW, also induces skids.

So here's the bottom dollar reason I like it: It allows me to put spin on the CB at slower speeds. That's it. Don't care about the cost; how long it lasts; how clean it keeps things; or anything else. I can just do more with the CB now. Gail, bless her heart, heard me say I like it and gave me enough pieces of Taom to last me well into my dotage.

To the rest of you I say: puleeeeesee stay with Masters.

The new predator is supposedly clean like taom (maybe made by them is the rumor), but the old predator is 10x messier than masters.
 
I remember hearing a commentator say in a previous tournament that Shane seemed to have far fewer skids on average than other players. I'm not sure you can blame it all on Masters chalk.
