Reasonable amount of time?

Hello all,

I made an order with a well known cuemaker approximately 15 months ago, for a cue that was estimated about 6 months to make, placed a downpayment of about 1/3rd total price, and have been waiting since. After 6months I was curious about the status so tried to email. At 8 months tried to call and email again. Waited a year and once again tried emailing and calling. After such a long time and no response, I am starting to get concerned. Not really sure what course of action to take as I have not encountered this problem with other cuemakers in the past. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Well, there's two aspects of this that are all wrong.

A. - establishing an EXPECTATION of 6-months, when it's now been 2-1/2 times that long.

B. - no communication for over one-year. This is the biggest concern. Sometimes cuemakers can be over-zealous when they estimate time to complete, plus life events can get in the way. But not responding to your inquiries at all, we're talking NO RESPONSE, right? That's inexcusable, as long as the CM is still breathing.

Without casting judgement or disparaging the CM, why don't you tell us who it is - some AZer seems to always have the skinny on every CM out there. Perhaps someone can shed some light on the situation.

I really don't want to cause any problem with the cuemaker, especially in a forum like this. All I really need is a quick note from him saying anything really, (quit bugging me, it's coming along!) anything. I still want the cue made and still admire and respect his work, but should there be a limit to my patience as a consumer?

why not? he obviously doesn't give a crap about you and has shown it by his actions or lack thereof.

Be thankful you just made a down payment and not a paid in full.I have to agree by letting people know who it is, maybe someone knows whats really going on.He could be in the hospital and unable to respond. If he is well know for his cues, I would think he would want to remain that way.Maybe his email has changed and he isnt getting email forwarded to the new one.Anyways keep a postive outlook and hope you get your cue soon, and when you get it i hope its exactly what you wanted.

Ask for some photos showing the progress of your actual cue, or if you are close go see if any work has been done on the cue. I would be concerned with no communications as well. Find someone on the forum who lives close and PM them to see if they are willing to go by and check things out for you.

Only you can decide as to how patient you should be but if it were me I would cancel the order and request a deposit refund. At this point I would have had enough, no matter who the cuemaker is.

I've bought a lot of cues from cuemakers and I know exactly how bad things can go sometimes.

There are many good cuemakers out there that give better service than you are getting from this guy.

It is Ironic that today I received the first email from him in 15 months, stating it will be complete within the next 4 weeks. Perhaps this message put things in motion, I don't know. The wait time really didn't bother me, as I have several other cues, it was the lack of communication that was the big issue. Anyways, we'll see how things turn out. Thanks.

Wow, imagine that! What are the odds of such a coincidence?
