Recommendations for bulbs in light

Hi all,

I just installed a Toltec light for my soon to arrive table and was wondering what bulbs you recommend. Each light will accept up to 150 watts.

Right now I put in 120w 40 size floods and the bulbs just hang below the shade. I guess the 30 size might work better. Also, how about these new halogen bulbs, any good?

Thanks for the suggestions.

My suggestion is hang flourscent lights on the ceilings like in an office and avoid the low hanging incandescent pool lights.

What Fast said.

If you are going to use incandecent, make sure the center bulb (assuming there are 3) is a lower wattage than the outside ones. Otherwise you will have a "hot spot" in the center of the table.

I have a 3 shade lamp an use 120-watt equivalent compact-flourescent bulbs, it works great. They are more expensive bulbs but they will last forever, put off a good flat natural light, and don't use much energy.

Go buy those and get them damn bug bulbs out of your light fixture :D

Different bulbs

If you use a florescent FULL spectrum bulb instead of the normal cool whites...it will be much easier on your eyes and the lighting will be fine.

Thanks for the suggestion, I was curious if these work well. I'll give these a try.

As the light is already installed in a living room, I don't think the office look would go over very well but that would have been my first choice under different circumstances.

Finally went out and tried these after reading this post a couple weeks ago. I bought (4) 75W equiv. for the light over my table to replace the 60W regular incandecents (manuf. recommended max).

I have to say this was one of the best tips I ever got off any of the pool boards and would recommend them to anyone that has incandecent lighting.
Thanks KingCarom.

I am glad they worked out for you. They take a moment or two to warm up, but work great!

That is what I ended up putting in my light as well. No complaints at all. I actually purchased the dimmable version and installed a dimmer switch. All in all, I'm quite satisfied.
