i had a le pro with a red fibre backing put on, and it's fu#$ing great! besides the tip being great, what does the red fibre backing do? does it help the hit? or does it make the tip last longer, does it change the hit? how so? or all of the above, thanks.

I have found hat they soften the hit some. I guess it's all in your taste. I believe they first started using them on ivory ferrules to help protect the ivory were it is more brittle then a normal ferrule.

Tip replacement involves sanding the face of the surface to which the tip attaches. And in your case it's the fiber pad that'll be sanded instead of the ferrule, increasing ferrule life.

Triumph tips used to have them built-in. So did Tad's tips.
Phoenix cues used to have them on all of their cues. Had a ticking sound.
Me no liked it.

good to know.

The last 10 tips I put on had backers on them and I've had no ticking sound in them, some were hard tips, medium and medium soft all fine. B
