Reducing Cue Weight

I have a cheap spare cue that I want to make into a break cue.

It currently weighs almost 20 oz and I would like to reduce the weight to 18-18.5 oz. There is no weight bolt system in the butt.

Is is practical, and advisable for me to drill out the butt end of the cue to reduce the weight. I realize that to reduce one ounce would require me to remove about 40cc of material. That seems like a lot.

The cue is not worth taking to a cue maker to have is redone and I can't afford to buy a new one now.

Any and all advice appreciated.

have you considered cutting ( shortening ) the butt or shaft? MeZz Powerbreak 2 is shorter compared to the average cue but is really explosive on the break :)

What type of Cue is it? Sometimes the bolt is there you just can not see that far into the hole.

I have had several people bring me cues recently to have the bolt taken out and I have to go to my extremely long screwdriver to reach the bolt.

If there is no weight bolt and the cue is solid on the end then yes you could drill that out and get a bumper to fill in the hole to hide the newly drilled hole.

It is a cheap Chinese cue. The bumper had no screw but fits into a recess in the butt. When you take out the bumper, all you see is wood. No screws or weights anywhere that I can find.

The cue actually hits pretty good and is straight , but is just a little too heavy for me.

To drill it out deep you need a lathe.
a 1/2 drill bit will do what you want.
You can fill the hole with expanding foam from the hardware store.
