I recently bought a Brunswick Sport King model from the 1950's. Here are some pictures:
The table is in so-so condition. The playing area of the slate is not cracked, but has one or two small chips in it, and a scratch or two, which can be easily patched up. The slate has more than a few stains in it, which after I patch the slate I will sand down. The problem areas of the slate are under where the rails will be placed. There are many small chips here, that I will fill with Bondo and sand down.
The poplar wood backing is pretty worn and there are also a couple of chips in the slate where the slate connects to the wood. So I am thinking of just replacing the poplare all together, since I am going to have to take apart anyways.
Also the slate pocket openings aren't super smooth. Should I sand these down slightly, or do I risk altering the pockets too much?
The table was equipped with "Monarch" cushions. I asked Brunswick which profile these fit, K55 or K66 and the lady told me K55. Yet, I called the the local Brunswick retailer she recommended and he said that you could use either K55 or K66, and that he, "does it all the time."
I was wondering if anyone more experienced than I am can help me out with any of my questions and let me know if my procedures sound right. I am also planning on extending the sub-rails, and I may need some help with that, but we will cross that bridge when I get there.
Thanks.
