I read some of the thread regarding one pocket rules. Truth is, you can play be any rules you want. There is no governing body telling you what to do. Grady often did tournaments where he played by his own rules. I put on probably a few hundred tournaments some pretty big and I often made up my own rules.
I had tournaments where you had to win by 2, no hill hill, I did single elimination tournaments 2 out of 3 sets. I did a few 5 and 9 ring nine ball tournaments where we used poker chips and you had to bust the table to win. First night 16 players on 4 tables. Then the second night the 4 winners on one table with all guaranteed money.
In the finals with two guys left one guy was down to his last chips and fought his way back to win. It took 11 hours and at 4am hardly anyone had left. I had people coming up to me telling me it was the most exciting tournament they had ever been to.
I did tournaments where you could not win with the nine on the break, you just kept your turn and it spotted when ever you wanted to spot it. I did a one pocket tournament single elimination where the first player to 50 won the set. In other words, you played each rack till all the balls were off the table and then started the next rack and did this till one player got to 50.
I once did a 6 ball ladies tournament where any time someone broke and ran out they got instant bonus money paid in cash. Turned out they played a little better then I thought and I handed out like $300.00 in bonus money.
Like I say, you can do anything you want, who is to tell you not to. If a bigger promoter does something different and interesting that seems to work you can be sure it will be copied. One foul BIH. I believe originated with the Jansco brothers to speed up the game. This is not really and big debatable subject. When it comes to matching up you can definitely play by any rules you want.
