Anyone know if Efren Reyes has any pool playing relatives? I seen Ray Reyes name in the july/August addition of Inside pool and was wondering if he was related. Is Reyes a common name in the Philippines?

It's a common last name for Filipinos and Mexicans. Off the top of my head I can think of three people I know with that last name.

yep, fairly common some with the variation, de los reyes.

relative? hmm, his kid played in one leg of the Asian 9Ball tour, but one of his biggest critic was his dad, who wasnt too impressed with him and said he was not gonna teach him (he has to develop his own style, that's what efren said)

as to other relatives, his got 44 living with him, so, fair measure to expect one or two could be playing seriously

Reyes....

There's a very fine and knowledgable custom cuemaker in the Philippines, named Edwin Reyes, also present on some forums.

His cues are called ER-cues...

Maybe not quite Smith or Jones but Reyes is a very common Hispanic first and last name. Filipino people have Spanish and Mexican in their bloodline.

'Reyes' is a very common name in the Philippines. It's a spanish word meaning "Kings."

Although this is true, I think most of the Spanish naming came as a result of a census and subsequent re-naming of the Filipinos by Spain during Spain's rule. This was part of the spread of Catholicism throughout the Philippines.
