IMO, I really do not think ferrules serve a purpose other than for people with improper chalking techniques or who abuse their cues. Its extra protection, yes, but it comes with a cost... extra unwanted weight up front. I dont like the idea of them except on house cues which are bound to be abused and I highly doubt I will ever put the shaft in a situation where it will split. This cue is also not a very expensive cue without much resale value so its more of an experiment. Many people use ferruless shafts with no problems. They were a necessity back before tips, fiber pads, and superglue were around. Not so much anymore IMO. Thanks again for the replies!
