Almost anything can be done. You would have to decide what you wanted in the pockets that were created when the inlays were removed. You could have the same wood as the cue and it would not be as noticable but whatever you do you will see where the pockets were,

hi, thx for the quick response. so then what your'e saying is that the inlays are not just stuck on decales that they are acutally embedded in the wood. so if that is the case, then the cue can't be just sanded down to remove or sand off the abalone it has to be dug out....thx jack

Well, you bring up a valid point. If the inlays are stickers, this is not an inlay, then yes you could sand them off and re-clear coat a cue. Keep in mind that if they are stickers then the cost of re-finishing a cue would be higher than the value of that cue.

hi jim, i guess i'll have to ask the cuemaker (jacoby) if it can be done as i have no idea if they are acually decals or if they cut out a groove when the cue was made. i was trying to avoid the embarrassement of asking them, as i waited 5 months for the cue to made i like the cue but not the inlays....thx for time jack

Yes, if it's a Jacoby they're not decals, they're inlayed aprox 1/8" deep into the cue. If it's just the butt sleeve where the inlays are you do not like, the butt sleeve could be turned off and a new buttsleeve could be re installed sans inlays. It would of course require refinishing (at least below the wrap) and possibly rewrapping depending upon the way the buttsleeve meets adjacent to the wrap. Probably more work than it's worth! But it could be done.

Sounds like you would be spending extra money to make your cue worth less money. I thnk it would probably be more cost effective for you to sell the cue and start over.
