Removing pin from Ivory joint

Can you safely remove a 5/16 pin from a flat face Ivory joint and replace it with a unilock pin?

I've yet to work on ivory but any other product yes it can be done. Gotta heat the pin pretty good to get out (usually)

You never know how Ivory will react to the heat. So unless you are willing to have to replace the ivory joint don't risk it.

Thanks, for the advise, decided not to risk the ivory joint and instead have a whole new cue made
