I removed the Formica from the rails of a GC3 today.
I used a heat gun, putty knife and a pair of vice grips.
I simply used a little bit of heat not too much, got the putty knife between the Formica and the wood of the rail and worked my way through bit by bit.
I was able to lift around 3 inches at a time.
Total time per rail was about 5 minutes.
