Replace ferrule on a Gilbert

I have a cracked ferrule on a Gilbert jump/break shaft and I want to replace it. I have a local guy that can do it no problem, my question is, should I put a shorter ferrule on it if I am using it strictly as a break cue, or should I put a normal length ferrule back on it? I have two shafts for the cue, and the other is fine, just going to put a hard leather tip on both cause they have phenolic tips on them which I can't stand.

Shorty,
You strike me as an experimenter, thats cool. I think a short ferrule makes sense, but it will take length from your cue. You could always change back later, if you don't like it. I would keep it the same if it were mine though.

Melamine with a sumo tip or the break jump conversion that was discussed easrlier but I think for you, Sumo is a good choice.
