Replacing the slate on Brunswick GC5 TE to get some shelf

Hi guys.

My mechanic has done an excellent job replacing the rails, tightening the pockets and some cosmetic work as well on my GC5 TE. There's really just one thing missing this being a perfect table for me and that's the shelf. As you know GC5 TE don't tend to have a whole lot of shelf as it is, and after you tighten the pockets there's even less of it. Some might say there's no shelf whatsoever.

So my idea is to find a new slate (custom?) that's going to make the table play tougher. Has anyone else done anything similar to that?

All ideas welcome!

good luck here. afaik there is no one making custom slates for GC tables. the market(?) for this is beyond tiny. GC slates are what they are.

It's Simonis 860 Shark Grey. I suggest you try to find Simonis 860 Shark Grey HR (High Resistance) as break/jump spots are pretty much invisible there for a long time.

I was afraid there's no custom slate market. Still, it's stone so was hoping to find someone up for the job.

We've been through the pocket sizes on my old GC5 TE before, basically on the larger (4.6") sie, after mods it's 4.05" but very little shelf. Also splurged for Artemis Intercontinental which makes it play very Diamond-ish.
 
Wasnt there a guy on here that was talking about getting custom slates done? He had a real hatred for RKC and I believe he got banned? Trent I think was his name?
 
I wonder what would happen if you extended the shelf with Bondo? Not the pink stuff but there is Bondo call All Metal, its not all plastic, it has aluminum in it, it is noticeably tougher than the standard Bondo. I would guess it would only take 1/2"-5/8" to make the shelves considerably deeper.
