If you don't have the money to spend on a lathe, you may want to check out a Willard Tip tool. It's a great little device that you can pick up for like $400. I'll find the link and send it to you.

If you have the $400 to buy the Willard Tip Tool, that's perfect! But...save about $300 more and you can get a mini lathe from the CueMan, www.cuesmith.com

Is that how much those willards are now? We use to use one of those big shavers that we got back in the old days, and it got us by with hand tipping for a while. still have the thing, seems like they were alot less back when we bought It. the willard Might be better, but ours got It close enough that we could just touch them up for alot less money then 400. We also have one of those hand crank ferrule tenon machines. I do aggree with the cuelathe, at that price all you need to start out is tips, glue, and paper towels. Not a bad deal IMO. Trimming tips is best done on a lathe, but I have been there. Gap filling glues seem to work best for most tips, be carefull not to taper the ferrule if sanding the tip, this is common amoung tips put on by hand. also need something to face the ferrule with when hand tipping, there is a thing called a rapid sander that can be used for that.I would definatly go with a cuelathe If I could swing it, as that is where you will end up if doing tip jobs eventually anyway. Even if you can afford the money for a repair video It's money well spent from the knowledge gained. Might as well figure atleast one wood lathe into either senerio as well. you will get use from it either with hand tipping or if you have a cuelathe also. Good Luck to the poster
