Rhino break shaft: current opinions??

I'm thinking of buying a Rhino break shaft. I have a Koda butt with the 5/16x18 pin that I'm not using, so considering making it a break cue. Have been using a Players PureX and I like it but the 14mm shaft is feeling really "fat".

I did a search and didn't see anything posted within the past few months about the Rhino stuff so I'm curious as to current opinions on the break shafts.

Would be buying thru Amazon.

I've had my Rhino break shaft for about a year now. I like it a lot and for the $, I'd buy another one if I ever needed a new one for whatever reason. I did replace the tip that came installed on it with a Zento, which is a great combination. In fact, I find that this set up jumps really well. I often just use my full break cue to jump with if the balls aren't terribly close. The taper on the Rhino is great. No complaints at all. I suspect you will like it.

I think Gar started a thread about them a few months ago. Info should still be useful.

I purchased the Komet break cue and think it hits just fine.
Switched the tip to a Taom. Better than the stock tip imo.

I did on the play shafts, know nothing about the break shaft. Heard it works fine.

I bought the shaft played with for a month and then ripped off the tip it shipped with and replaced it with Kamui SAI control and it's 100 times better.

There is a seven-page post from February on Rhino:

No posts there on Rhino break shafts except (see below) to say that one order of the break shaft came with a soft tip and an extra tip for the Komet Break cue. Rhino's website describes their Komet II and the Voyager Break cues as having Bakelite cue tips. The Komet (no I or II) is on on the website but is sold out and no mention of the cue type on it. Komet II appears a better bet than Komet.

It is weird a poster got a soft tip on the break cue---was that Komet or Komet II?. It can't be that confusing to know what takes Bakelite versus soft tip --- the break shaft says BREAK on it . . . . . There is a 10% Christmas discount making their only break shaft cost $179, Voyager USA break cue $359, and Komet II $287. A regular Rhino shaft during christmas is $179. Hmmmmmm

received my Komet break cue in January. No extra tip but it came with a weight kit.
Weird that it came with a super soft black layered tip that needed to be replaced asap for any break to have some power in it.

Yep, my Rhino break shaft came with that same soft tip for whatever reason, but came with a free gift of their komet break tip???? I put on a zento tip from my archives and now it hits a ton or whatever the parlance is.

I bought my Rhino shaft over a month ago and have used it for many many break shots since. Cleaned it once with alcohol and never since. I've not noticed any black residue after the initial cleaning for what it's worth.

I got a voyager break cue about a month back. I like it a lot. It has a bakelite tip. Holds chalk well and hits them hard and accurate.

It took me a bit to get onto the cue as I had been using a super light, about 15oz one. Now that I have the "timing" down I love it.

A May 2024 poster had two Rhino Break cues' ferrule and shaft break. It appeared to have been manufactured with a weak ferrule. Initially, the 30-day warranty prevented replacement but, eventually, Rhino did OK with the player.

A poster who broke at 20 mph and others posted that they did not have that problem.

The poster purchased the break cues in February 2024. Hopefully Rhino has changed the ferrule since then (maybe that was a Komet and the Komet II is different?).

Update to thread:

Ordered a Rhino break shaft this morning. Had some Amazon points built up that lowered the cost a bit. If shipping goes as planned I will be able to start testing it out early next week.

Thanks to everyone for your input.
