There have been a few posts about Richard Barney from Hagerstown, MD written in this forum. I played with Richard on an almost daily basis for a year, and he's undoubtedly incredible. I just moved to North Carolina three weeks ago, but when I lived in Martinsburg, WV, I made the trek to Hagerstown almost every day to play. No matter when I showed up, except very late at night, Richard would be terrorizing the regulars at any game just playing for fun. The point is, he was never arrogant and he put as much heart into his free games as I do into my gambling matches. He never lets up.
For those who attended Valley Forge this year, Richard won the 14 and under tournament, and last year he placed third in a Plant Pool tournament eliminating Don Steele by a large margin. Pool is not the only thing in his life, though; he is home-schooled by his mother, and Richard's instructor will not teach him anything unless his studies are completed.
Richard practices drills regularly,and he plays all games, but he does not let his abilities get to his head. He's a gentleman with overwhelming confidence, talent, and prowess whose passion for the game is phenomenal. I can not say enough about his character or his nerves of steel. Richard is simply exceptional. I say this not only as a witness, but also as a friend.
