Up for sale is a nice shaft from Rick Howard, a custom cuemaker from Florida, whom, as you know, is a highly regarded builder of fine cues.
This shaft has the same-sized threads (3/8 x 11) as found in a South West cue, which are revered by many, for their very stiff hit. It is also completely compatible with a South West cue, as the shaft diameter is .823 inches in diameter. The base diameter for South West cues is .825 inches in diameter, give or take a millimeter or two. The total weight of the shaft is 3.65 oz.
I purchased this shaft a few months back from another AZ member, who is a South West collector and dealer. He described the shaft as being as good or better than any of his best, old-growth Southwest shafts!
The ring work of this shaft is also very similar to a South West cue, as seen in the pics below, which also show nice "silking" in the grain
lines of the shaft:
Here is a pic showing the entire shaft, which measures 29 in. in length:
The shaft is perfectly smooth, with no nicks or dings. It has obviously been well-cared for. It features a premium, layered, leather tip.
I'm not positive what brand it is, but I'm thinking either a Moori or Molavia, given the color and appearance of the leather. The ferrule is
a linen-type, which you may be able to see from the pics below:
The shaft's diameter measures 12.62 mm at the top of the ferrule, or base of the tip.
The only reason I'm selling this shaft is because it doesn't match up too well with a John Dugger cue that I intended to use it with, which also has 3/8x11 threads. The collar of the John Dugger has an even smaller diameter than the Rick Howard or South West cues. Hence, I would either have to buy a Rick Howard or South West cue, in order to use this shaft. Here's an opportunity for someone who already owns a Rick Howard or South West cue, to pick up a great shaft at a reasonable price, and without any wait time.
$SOLD. Interested parties, please PM me for payment details.
