Hello fellow pool freaks. It's my first time in any pool forum, some great topics here! I am in search of some rules of how any ring game is played. I do some tournament promoting and I would love to experiment with a ring game in an upcoming tourney. Any help would be greatly appreciated, just a link would even be good.THANKS
I have played 4 kinds of Ring Games, each of them can be played with any set number of balls.
There's Kelly Pool. Each player draws a pill number before the break. When your pill is made by another player, you cough up the set value (discussed before the games begin) to that player. If you make your pill numbered ball, all the players pay you the set value. There is a possibility of "dead balls", meaning no one drew that pill number. There is the possibility of having the last ball a community ball with the same value or a different value.
There's Ring game A - (9 Ball), where a value is placed on the 5 and 9 or a value is placed just on the 9. The 6 & 10 are used when playing 10 Ball. When either money ball is legally pocketed, the player gets that set value from all the contestants. The games does not stop until the 9 is pocketed last. The 9 spots up, if pocketed early. The player that pockets the 9 is the breaker. This kind of ring game can bust you rather quickly, if you do not get some rolls.
There's Ring game B - (9 Ball or 10 Ball), where a point value is placed on the 5 and 9 or a point value is placed just on the 9. The 6 & 10 or just the 10 are used when playing 10 Ball. The 9 spots up, if pocketed early.
When either money ball is legally pocketed, the player gets to move his marker one diamond forward (or the set value of 1 mark for the 5 ball & 2 marks for the 9ball or whatever) - (6 & 10 for 10 ball). All the contestants put a cash value ante in the pot. The player that pockets the last money ball is the breaker.
The ring game is won by the first player getting his marker to the 10th diamond.
The kicker is this>>> If after any game is legally over & 2 players have markers at the 9th diamond spot, it's a one tie - all tie. All the contestants re-up an ante & start over.
This kind of ring game is easier on the pocket book, but the winners do better in the long run, because of the ante pot.
There's Ring game C - (6 Ball, 9 Ball or 10 Ball), commonly called PAY BALL. where a value is placed on each ball and maybe more value on the last ball. When any ball is legally pocketed, the player gets that set value from all the contestants. The games does not stop until the 9 is pocketed last. The 9 spots up, if pocketed early. The player that pockets the 9 is the breaker. This kind of ring game can bust you rather quickly, if you do not get some rolls & aren't one of the better players.
