I got asked to go on a road trip over to Panama City a few weeks back to check out some of Rob's cues with a good friend of mine. I've really had little to no interest in buying cues in the last several years. I found my player and have just spent time playing not really collecting or flipping cues. We got to Rob's shop and I was surprised at what I found. Rob has his shop (which was quite impressive) set up very specialized, this machine only does this, this machine only does that etc. I was not expecting this level of machinery out of a guy who I had barely heard of. I got to see cues at every stage of production and could tell this guy was really doing things the right way. There was only cue ready to go that wasn't sold, and I had already decided that if my friend didn't pop on it, I would. I picked it up and it just felt like a player, nice balance and weight, just felt good in the hand. Now, I really only wanted to come on this trip to hook up with Kenny Murrell and hopefully buy a cue which I did. We got to the poolroom with Kenny and Rob sometime later and started hitting balls with our new toys. As good as my new Murrell was, I knew it was going to take some tweeking to get it where I wanted it. I hit about three balls with my buddie's new Harris cue and I was sold. Then I checked out Rob's brother's monster cue and knew I had to have one. After arriving back home, the hit of that Harris cue began to haunt me, and I picked up the phone and asked him to finish one of the cues he had that was nearly ready but not sold. This cue has a solid ivory joint3/8-10 and two shafts both 12.75 and short ivory ferrules. The veneer colors are not something I would have picked out to go with the classic mop inlays, but they really look nice, just a little more pastel than I would normally choose. The points are great and the inlay work is nicely done. Finish is good, not absolutely the best I've had, but damn good all the same. The reason to buy a Harris cue is the hit and playability. I've not picked up a cue in a long time that I didn't feel the need to fiddle with a little, but not this one, it is a monster player. I can do things with this cue with ease that I wouldn't deem possible. This cue feels alive, the feedback to my hand is instant, it really is incredible. Rob tells me that he has just recently changed his shaft taper in the last year or so to what it is now, so if you have tried an older Harris cue, probably hits a little different, I don't know, this is the only one I've had.Rob is incredibly fair on the pricing, in fact I think he is way to cheap and I hope he raises his pricing a bit. Rob want's to build a cue for every budget and that is admirable, but I honestly believe he can charge whatever he wants and get it. These are monster players, and his designs are superb as well. I know it sounds like I'm gushing, because I am, but Rob's cues really play the way I like cues to play. The spin and action is there in spades but the cues aren't whippy and unpredictable, just right for my taste. Get one, if you don't like it, contact me and more than likely I'll be a buyer. I have another heavily inlayed cue on order.
