Rough/Scratched Up Ferrule

Hi, I'm new to the forums and I've recently started playing pool more often and bought a starter Action cue with the Ultimate Tip Tool.

When I first got my cue the ferrule was shiny and smooth, now it's all roughed up (I think it may have been from the trimming). Should I worry about this?

Also, how often should I maintain the tip? I've been using all the options of the tip tool (trimming, burnishing, shaping, and scruffing) after day's use and I'm beginning to worry that before long I'll be looking in the market for a new tip and service to replace it.

I always thought the purpose of the ferrule was to protect the end of the shaft when you're chalking, like a car bumper when you park. Its alot easier to replace a tip and ferrule than the shaft.

Unless the tip starts mushrooming really bad, I say leave it alone. Shape it once, and leave it alone. If it keeps deforming, maybe the tip is too soft for your style of play or you're hitting too hard.

BTW, welcome to the board.
