rubberized grip - durability?

I just took the plunge and ordered a PureX (Players) HXT63 cue:

I've toyed around with those type of rubberized grips on pool cues while trying them out in store, and I really like the feel, better even than a no-wrap cue. However, I'm just wondering about the longevity of that type of grip. I was in a pool hall today that had some pool cues for sale, including one that had that rubberized grip, which happened to belong to the pool hall owner's daughter. The grip had a small tear in the rubber that caused it to have a little flap loose. I never got the chance to ask how that happened, but it made me wonder...how easy is it for these grips to run into trouble? I mean I'm not going to take a razor blade to it, but I'm wondering if a no-wrap cue might be better than a rubberized grip when it comes to the normal scuffs and dings that happen to cues in the course of being used. It's not too late for me to change my order! :)
