Is it in the written rules?
One thing that can make a shot decision more difficult is having choices. What shot do you have the most choices? The Push. No restrictions, just do anything you want to do. I think trying to figure out what to do on a push is one of my biggest down falls in 9 ball. I use to push to a jump shot a lot, but now a days everyone has a jump stick. I think I know most of the things to look for in a push shot, but I have such a hard time making up my mind.
So, what rule am I talking about? Opinions are certainly welcome here but I'm really looking for something in writing on the rules.
Lets say I broke the rack, made a ball and am looking to push because I don't have a shot on the 1 ball. I'm thinking so hard about it that I don't hear the referee give me the time warning. All of a sudden the referee says "time!", he comes over, picks up the cue ball and hands it to my opponent. Here is the question. Does my opponent have the opportunity to push? Might be a silly question and I'm having trouble coming up with a scenario that it might be advantageous to do it, but I think there probably could be situations where he might consider it.
So there are a couple of subjects here.
1. Does the incoming player with ball in hand because of a time penalty after the break, have the push available?
2. What kind of situation could exist that might make him think about pushing?
or even
3. If you know the opponent can't push, what kind of situation could exist that you might let the time run out on purpose?
