Same Shaft - Different Butt

ok, perhaps this subject has been brought up before, but if you have a situation where one shaft fits two of your butts, would the cue play the same? or differently?

for example, my Nova Shaft will fit on my Jacoby Butt, and vice versa. so, will the Jacoby Butt/Nova Shaft play differently than the Nova Shaft/Butt? i guess i am asking if the Butt would make a difference in the way a cue plays?

just curious.

Why don't you try it and report back.

I have several Hueblers that all have a 5/16 x 18 joint. One is a sneaky pete, one a plain jane, and one a custom 4-point. All on their own play veru much differently.

However, when I put my Predator 314 shaft on it they play very similarly. That said, they do not play identically. I can notice the biggest difference with the sneaky pete, and I suspect it's because it's slightly more rear-weighted and has a wood-to-wood joint. The other two cues have stainless steel joints and are forward weighted a few inches ahead of the sneaky pete.

So no they won't play the same--they will play differently. however, the differences will greatly be diminished.

If the balence and weight are different on each butt then yes it should play differently.

There are so many variables that go into how a cue plays and so many different things each person pays attention to. No, they will not play the same. Although deflection should be nearly identical since that is a trait found in the shaft, the characteristics of each butt will inevitably make a difference. Weight, joint and fit will play a role in how the cue plays. Even the weight bolt, if not properly screwed in place, will have an impact on how the cue plays.

will ...

Will Tommy shaft work on Amy butt? Sure, but it wor't be the same as
Andy shaft, because Andy was made for Amy ..... lol

Do you put Chyrsler products on GM vehicles ... Some guys might, but most
don't ...

I don't buy a cue to put a different shaft on it ... I buy the cue in the
first place because of how it performs for me to begin with ...

Just breakdown and buy a cue that you like the whole cue, and how
it plays, and you won't have that problem.... quit trying to mix and match,
it will get you 'out of balance'.
