sardo rack

Love to watch pool on tv except for 3 min racking .Bring back the sardo rack ???
Template racks are as fast or faster than the sardo racks. The sardo does nothing really, the cloth is trained with little divots where the balls sit.

I think perfect racks somewhat hurt 9 ball. I mean, everyone likes to have perfect racks, but a skilled ref racking with a good wooden rack is as fair and adds some unpredictability, as well as making rack reading relevant. There should be a timer like 30 seconds for the breaker to inspect and break with no re-racks. I'm not talking slug racks, but skillfully racked the balls are never really frozen completely so a quick look over should be allowed. If the timer runs out, the opponent gets to break. That would be real punishment and get rid of the shenanigans.

Template racks are fun to break off of, but too perfect leads to shenanigans like soft breaks with guaranteed wing ball, much more pattern racking etc.

The $5 templates rack are better than the Sardo, and those are used in some events. Any way or racking will have issues with it. One is harder to rack well and can lead to "unfair" poor racks, other is fast but can lead to "unfair" too good racks where making a ball is pretty much guaranteed. Just like with jump cues, there is no "best" choice. Someone will always want the other way.

Sardo racks were the worst invention for pool. Basically you put all the balls in a regular rack and beat them until there are divots in the table. After that, you could use the Sardo rack. If you looked at the Sardo as you were racking, it actually didnt touch half the balls. It was a huge gimmick.

We used it in the IPT and I cant tell you how many times balls either rolled funny across all the divots, it came to rest in a divot. Try shooting a ball out of a divot and having it hop. it was a nightmare!

I watch a lot of old matches and the only person I ever saw rack using the Sardo rack was Carmine Sardo himself. He racked the balls. That was all I needed to see to know something was up; that this gadget must be tricky to use.

First time i saw one used i freaked out. Dude HAMMERED the balls to get divots. What a colossal piece of excrement. Either use a regular triangle(my favorite) or a template.

It is=All the tables @ Hard Times Bellflower had them in the tournament room. I was never able to rack with one in the 3 days i was there. A gigantic PITA!
