Schon joint pin

I need to replace the joint pin on a schon that I am rebuilding. The pin is 5/16-14, and .302 in diameter. The 5/16-14 pins that I have are .310. If I replace the .302 with the .310, can I just run the tap for the larger pin in the shaft insert to make it fit? Should I replace the insert instead, or should I get the smaller pin and tap, I'm sure I'll need them in the future.

Also, where can I find the smaller tap and pins?

Taps can be custom ordered if you need odd ones, but won't be cheap.
Is the cue yours? or a Customers? If it were mine, I would just put a regular pin in it, and tap the inserts if needed. If it were a customer's I would ask them if that was ok to do.

The cue is a customers. I spoke with him and it is o.k. to do whatever I need to, to fix the cue. This is the cue that the A-joint failed(definately abuse!!) and is a project of mine.

Sheldon, or Mike, is it o.k. to just run the larger tap in the smaller insert?

Thanks

Measure the hole, if it's a 1/4" minimum it should be fine. I would still use some tap fluid or 3 an 1 oil. Those pins are also in the old George cues and old Mali quick release.

Mike,
Do you have a database of all these joint sizes, or do you just have them all memorized? ;)

I believe the the .310 is standard now. .302 is what you have. If you need a shaft try Michael Webb, i'll bet he can help you. It seems he has all the goodies :D

There in my head, I enjoy repairing as much as building so if I feel there's a need, I have the taps made. I do this because I personally feel things should be kept original.
