Before you all get too far down the road of associating the hit with the pin,
let me be the first to inform you that the pin has very little, if anything to do with the hit.
It's sole function is to attach the shaft to the handle. Once it has completed that
function, it is out of the equation.
There is only one variable that I'm aware of and that is, how tightly the pin secures the shaft.
That degree of tightness can affect the hit.
Take two identical cues with say, 3/8x10 pins. One of these cue's shaft has a phenolic insert installed while
the other is a std wood thread.
The phenolic inserted shaft will have a firmer hit because you are able to tighten the shaft more securely.
Wood compresses, phenolic doesn't.
