My current shooting cue. 1995 model Schon SL 23. This is the actual one used in the photo shoot of the 1995 playboy article featuring high end cues. Thus the nickname of this model called the "playboy cue.

Hey thanks for sharing that picture and the explanation. I have often wondered why that cue was called the "Playboy" cue. Now I know the rest of the story!

Here is a photo shot of the article. Playboy mag Nov 1995 pp 161
In short is briefly talks about the increasing interest in the art of cue making, the materials, jewels and exotic woods used. It mentions Bill Stroud of Joss west cues, and how each high end cue takes months to make , and having a waiting list for years to obtain some of these creations. My cue is the one pictured 3rd from the far left.

Funny thing is I probably had that issue and never even opened it. I collected them for many years, from 1991 til 2001, stuck them in a box and gave my collection away to a buddy of mine right before I married.

Nice cue man...definately a collectable among the Schons.

Thanks Shorty.... I really like this cue IMO one of the best Schons made by Evan Clark. I've had several other nice Schons and they all hit similiar. I had thoughts of selling this one to get a Mottey or a Searing if possible. But not sure if the hit will be any better than the schon? Then the price for just Motteys plain Janes are really expensive and IMO would need a much higher end version to look as good as the SL23. Any experience with Motteys? The Searings is probably out of the question. There is a really nice searing on Ebay now...but just out of my budget.

Funny you should mention this, I keep thinking about getting a SS jointed Mottey myself. Buddy of mine has a nice SS jointed Gilbert he swears by. I am pretty happy with my Schon LTD now that I have a lizard wrap on it, and it's a pretty nice cue...not many 8 pointers from Schon I don't think. Also helps I am a big fan of ebony and ivory. I like the Mottey's though...but like you I think they are just outside my price range. Also hard to change cues when it's not broken so to speak...just gotta get my backup cue repaired and playable.
