Here's the next installment of "How the Cue Ball Turns".
Monday nights 8 ball tournament was nothing special for me. I played an A first match and lost, but shot well in the match.
I played a fellow B in my second match, and sorta blew him out, which confirmed that I was right about shooting fairly well.
My next match was against another A, and I played well again, and had a shot at hill-hill to win, but botched my position near the end of a run and sold it out. You really can't miss a shot against these guys.
I am seeing a pattern to my results. It seems I have a hump to get over with higher handicapped players. It's all in my head.
After I was out of the tourney, some of my buddies and I shot some goof off 9 ball. That's my favorite way to let off steam. I definitely dominated that session, getting out from anywhere and playing super loose. BTW, the buddies I was playing with were 2 B's and an A.
Thursdays B -C 8 ball tournament was a little small. We only got 4 players and played winner take all. I won my first match handily, but lost my second. Long way around, but I wound up in the finals and was in stroke pretty well.
In the finals, I won the first race to 3 convincingly (3 - 1).
But the second race, I was beginning to feel the effects of a long day at work and a long evening playing mostly top gear, and it wound up hill - hill.
I was still making some awesome shots and position plays, and I thought my opponent was sweating a little, so I asked if he'd like to split and he agreed.
We did play out the last rack, and he got it, but who knows how it would have turned out if the $$$$ was still on the line.
For this weekend, I'm going to try to get to the pool hall for a good workout. I'm trying to come up with a regimen I can stick with that will help my game out.
My current idea is to start off with 45 minutes to 1 hour of straight pool, which always helps me a lot.
Then I want to work on 8 ball patterns, so I think I'll break racks, pick a set of balls, take the other set off the table, and try to run out.
I'll do that for a few racks, then try it with all the balls left out a few.
Next I wanna put some serious, productive time into my 9 ball break. I can pound em, make a ball, and park whitey in the middle about 30 to 35% of the time right now, but I'd like to get some above half if possible. Mainly I need to concentrate on controlling it.
After all that serious work, I'll probably just wind down with some 9 ball vs the Ghost. I had him down 4 - 3 last time, but he got me 9 - 5. I think I need a spot!
