Anyone use any of the Q products? There's Q-Glide, Q Slick, Q-Clean, and Q-Smooth Papers. Anyone use any of these products? How do you go about using them and are they worth the money or no? I've been interested in these products for some time, but haven't decided on whether or not I should purchase one or two of them. Let me know your opinions and experiences with these products.

Also, anyone wax their shafts? I'm sure some of you do and probably use a few different types of waxes. Just curious as to which you think is better for waxing your shafts.

I can see the humor coming now, but let's try to stay on the subject. :D

i think waxing is a bad idea. wax is actually very sticky, and the shaft will grab your skin. i've heard of some nutty ideas. one person tried rubbibg bacon grease on their shaft.

what works for me is to sandpaper the shaft. most cuemakers don't finish their shaft well, imo. i've only seen two, joe gold and craig peterson who did it GREAT,,,,,,smooth as silk. so with a new shaft, i start with 1500 or 1800, then 2400, then 3600, then 4000, then 5000, then 8000 grit. this'll get the shaft shiney and glass-like. after that initial sanding, i simply maintain,,,,,,and if you take care of your shaft, you'll never have to do anything but buff with a cloth. you can also try burnishing with a piece of leather or a dollar bill.

I avoid any cleaning product containing bleach and/or an abrasive. Also, most re-packaged cue care products are over-priced for what you get.

Wax IMO gets sticky when mixed with any oils from your hands. Actually, most of my customers don't even like the "sealer" put on by cue makers. I use 1000 grit to remove that sealer, then burnish with a piece of un-dyed leather. After that, frequent cleaning with a soft, damp cloth followed immediately by a brisk rub down with a soft, dry cloth should keep your shaft clean and smooth.

I've used Q-glide and it works well, it seals, buffs and protects the shaft. Kinda expensive though but it works great. I use 800 grade sandpaper to clean the shaft then work it up to the hugher grades. I suggest you get a micro-mesh sanding kit. They have up to 12,00o grit. I then burnish it with leather and aplly q-glide after. You'll have a silky smooth shaft with a good finish after that. If you want to use wax, you could try ouyt Rennaissance wax used french polishing. Works the same way too.

Remember it is important to have these basics to maintain our equipment ;)

I know a few different types of wax that people have used. Anyone ever heard or TreWax? It's a natural wood wax that seems to do a pretty nice job. Also, most shafts are sanded before they are sold. The clear coat on my new Espiritu was left, so I'm going to sand that a little and was thinking about waxing my new cues. I try to wash my hands before and after each session. I also keep a 100% cotton cloth with me to rub the shaft and my hands when they start getting sweaty and to try and keep the shaft clean. I did a little searching and have heard quite a few different opinions on the Q products. They do seem to be way overpriced and just thought I would inquire about them. Thanks.
