Shaft burnishing

So I just got back into pool after a 6-7 year hiatus. My old cue (McDermott with plain maple shaft) has almost a glass like finish on the shaft. I don't really remember doing any maintenance or burnishing on it. Granted it might have been that way since the day I got it.

Now I have a Mezz with a WX700 and a Pechauer with a OB1. Both of these shafts have more of a matte finish where it touches my bridge hand. I've tried multiple burnishing tools: q-wiz, tiger leather burnisher, porper suede burnisher, Q-wax etc.

I still feel that they have a bit more of a matte finish that I desire and at certain points on the shaft there might be a very, very slight 'ridge' or stripe that is slightly higher than the surrounding wood.

Are there any other black magic tricks for getting an incredibly smooth, glassy finish on a shaft? Do I just have to keep burnishing every time I play?

yes, but don't do it yourself. OB shafts in particular feel better imo if it is lightly sanded to open the grain slightly, then properly sealed, then re sanded and burnished. It eliminates feeling the laminations in the shaft, makes the shaft slicker, and easier to stay clean. Take it to a competent repair guy, not expensive to do.
