Can the shaft collars(i think thats the term, where the ringwork is) be removed from one shaft and put on another(which will have to have its collar removed) or is it better to just have a new shaft made. Both are 5/16-14 with brass insert. Thanks,Mike Sellers

Shaft Collars

I'm sure it can be done.....but, I think it would be better to keep the original shaft and have a cuemaker make a new shaft with matching ringwork if it's at all possible!?

:)

Or just have one make some new ringwork and put it on the different shaft....

Ken,I agree ordinarily but heres the situation;I have a shaft with the ringwork i want that is unusable now and an older tight growth shaft with different ringwork.Just trying to give the old shaft another life.Mike S.

The shaft you pull the ring work from may get trashed, but the ring work may be able to be saved & put on another shaft, depending on type & condition of the ringwork, and if the inside and outside diameter sizes are adequate to your switch, but there is a possibility that the ringwork on the new shaft may be lost. You would even have to take measurements, or better yet take/send It to your cuemaker or qualified repair guy, and let him take some to determain If It could be done.
Preferably you want the donor ringwork to have a slightly larger diameter then the one from the shaft your putting it on, But it's possible If they are close in size it can still be done. As already mentioned, collectability is something to consider, If it's a valued cue & is original, might want to leave It be. Good luck with it.:)
