Shaft MM question..

I'm a machinist so I have some measuring tools (micrometers etc.. ) that probably most on here aren't going to have. I have a question though with regards to measuring a shaft and finding out what size it is.

On my Schon the ferrule measures .496 where it meets the shaft and .493 where it meets the tip. On the other shaft it's .486 (where it meets tip) and .490 where it meets the shaft. I'm assuming both these started life as 1/2 inch shafts which translates too (why are we using the metric system again?) 12.7 MM.

My girlfriends Joss though seems like your stroking a club becuase it feels so thick. I measured it and it's .510 at the tip and .525 at the shaft. Which 13.34 MM at the shaft and 12.95.

If I wanted to order another shaft for her, from where are they taking the measurement? The shaft or the tip? (both measurements taken on the ferrule, it's tapered though so it gets larger in the 1 inch).

God it's amazing to me how much thicker this shaft feels only to find out it's only .020 larger (roughly 7 human hairs). Thing feels like a club when I shoot with it.

Any shaft recomendations? Reason I'm asking is this thing seems to be really hard to get "extreme" amounts of english on the ball. My schon is rigid, but seems so much easier (even to her) to draw with, this thing is stiff (which I like) but seems like your scraping felt to get any action out of it, let alone table length stroke shots.

2nd question.. In looking at this thing I'm almost wondering if it even has a pro taper on it? Does Joss make shafts without a pro-taper or something?

god... get with the metric system man :)

its like ".020" WHAT larger? .496 WHAT where it meets the shaft?

Anyway, they are measureing the tip when they say "12mm" or "13mm"

The taper indicates how long up the shaft that remains true...

Also many have some vernier calipers(i'd guess) so this isnt really new knowledge...

AFAIK tolerances arent very tight on cues at least with taper concerns... generally I've heard things in .25mm increments(12mm, 12.25 mm, etc)

So they are measuring from the tip with sizes though with some tapers that will start increasing right away with the shaft....

The Joss taper continues all the way down the ferrule?

Incidentally, get with the metric system? We're in America right? .020 is 20 thousandths of an inch. Last I checked we won the war.. LOL :D j/k Seriously though I don't know anyone that uses the metric system over here? Kinda makes me wonder why they'd use it on cues?

I think I'm just going to order a new shaft for her Joss. What do you guys think? The predator 314? or something else?
