shaft thread retap advice please

I purchased a sugartree shaft years ago that was supposed to have a 3/8 10 thread. When I received the shaft, I believe it is a 3/8 11 because it does not fit on my carmeli southwest style pin of my jim pierce cue with an acme thread. When I tried to contact the seller, he disappeared off of the face of the earth and would not contact me back.

There are not many cue repair people around here and les that I would trust with a sugartree shaft in fear that they will make a mistake and jack it up.

The shaft has a kevlar insert in it (I think...or as I was told years ago when I posted on here).

Would this insert have to be drilled out, and then replaced with another insert and then retapped or can you retap it as is?

Also, any suggestions on where to send this would be appreciated. I don't want to bother Eric Crisp with something as remedial as this with his time and family committments, but at the same time, I want someone trust worthy.I know that it is unprofessional to comment on this but if anyone wants to PM me I will be more than happy to consider it.

Also, I do not want to wait until April for the SBE since I live in pennsylvania about an hour and a half north of philadelphia.

Thanks in advance

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Just reading your first paragraph I was starting to get a headache.
You believed it was a 10 thrd but now you think it's an 11 because it doesn't fit on your

"carmeli southwest style pin of my jim pierce cue with an acme thread."

Do you know what an ACME thrd. is?

If it doesn't look like that then it isn't an ACME thrd.
Also, I don't know anyone that uses a 'Kevlar' insert. You probably meant 'phenolic'.
Taking a shot in the dark (because we don't have any pics to shed light),
I'm going to GUESS that it's a simple matter of compatability btwn a 'V' bottom pin and 'Flat' bottom shaft/pin.
Or visa-versa.
If that's the case, it's a simple matter of opening the ID of the shaft to .3125".
Take it to someone that knows what they're doing. At some point they're going to want to see what you want to put it on.

As far as I know eric only made his cues 3/8-10 none of them were more than 10 threads, and almost sure (correct me if im wrong anyone) none of his shafts were phenolic tapped for threads... I would advise emailing Eric either way if your not pleased with what you purchased, maybe he would have more insight on the topic than anyone.

Best of luck.

st shaft

It might be a case of a minor thread, but I was told that Jim used and acme pin on it with a 3/8 10.

Also, when I posted pics of the shaft insert, several cuemakers chimed in and said it looked like kevlar.

WHen I tried to sell it, I had several people ask if it was a 3/8 10 or a 3/8 11 from people who wanted to buy a second shaft for their sugar tree cues.
