Can someone explain each of these shaft woods and what is the difference in hit for each (advantages & disadvantages) compared to regular maple shaft?

- Timeless Timber
- Lake Salvage
- Kiel wood
- Bowling alley

Timeless Timber is reclaimed wood. There are many companies that offer many variations.

Lake Salvage usually refers to the logs that were submersed in the great lakes. I believe originally it was just Lake Superior, but now companies have found wood in all of the great lakes. Advantages of the wood would be the very tight growth rings.

Kielwood® is the new generation of pool cue wood, specifically created for low deflection. It is a dark, hard rock maple that is harmonically stabilized for straightness. With traditional pie shaped shafts, each slice of the pie is susceptible to having a different reaction. (From the Prather website)

Bowling Alley, is just that. Reclaimed wood from bowling ally lanes. Personally I never thought of using it for cue shafts, I bought about 20 feet of it for my shop benches.

While knot an acknowledged expert, I’ve spent many seconds researching this topic and am quite nowledgeable on this topic. Allow me to elaborate...

TIMELESS TIMBER: Known for being quite strong, many players complain that it throws of their pre-shot routine. Their timing seems to be off...

LAKE SALVAGE: Wood known for its beauty, it seems to gather humidity from any available source. Even glove wearers complain about moisture.

KIEL WOOD: Players complain about a general lack of focus, almost as if their mind were “sailing away”.

BOWLING ALLEY: While highly polished and fast, enhancing the strike on the cue ball, over time the cue ball finds its way to a pocket gutter more often than knot.

NO shaft wood, no cue construction method, and no cue technology will EVER substitute for the 3 main ingredients of success at pool games- that is :1. one's ability to relax mind and body to focus and execute simultaneously at the moment of releasing the cue to the cue ball, 2. a practice routine that results in a thoughtless consistently repeatable and effective stroke, 3. Highly competitive pool played on a continuous basis to develop focus, sharpness and relaxation under high pressure situations and the resulting pool knowledge required to be very very good at this game. Just ask yourself why no one ever ran more than 526 balls with all the supposed pool cue technology available today! Don't look for a shortcut to a lifetime of devotion to a sport coupled with your own natural ability for that sport. It is a waste of your time and money.

is kielwood basically roasted/vulcanised maple? it's all the rage right now for guitars.
