Shafts

In my opinion the shaft needs to have a little bit of flex to add that extra snap to the break. My break jump has a 14 mm shaft on it, but I'm going to cut it down between 13.5 and 13.75 just to get a little flex without sacrificing the stifness to jump.

Thanks for your opinion Chris

If you get a chance check out my breaking shafts, they are reinforced with a 1/4" titanium tube inside the center that gives me the oportunity to machine them down to a smaller diameter and still get a solid hit.

I like a low-deflection shaft best for breaking. That way if I mis-hit the cue-ball it doesn't send it as far off-center. (and off the table) :D
This is why I have never liked break/jump cues, because I feel that a good jump cue should have maximum deflection, and jumping and/or breaking has to be compromised.
Since we know that deflection is caused by endmass not stiffness, I don't think that stiffness matters much for performance.
