Low life sharks
A shark is a shark whether intentional or not, because a ditraction of any player is just that - a distraction.
We are all only human and deal with distractions differently. Some players concentration is stronger than others, mine though is very low and always has been.
So, I get sharked very easily. During tournaments I take the diplomatic approach but even then my attention is taken away from playing my game, even if only for a short moment of time. Then I have to fade whether my opponent will do something again, so this moment actually turns into a period of time.
If and when it happens again then I know it is deliberate and take appropriate action with the tournament director. Now my opponent, the low life that they are, has accomplished their goal. Typically I lose these types of matches.
The wierd part is that if I am matched up in a money game, I could care less what my opponent is doing because I expect this from players that gamble.
In a money game I can also choose to not play the opponent where as in a tournament I do not have this luxury.
Typically the only answer I have for combating the low life shark is to be on top of my game, which makes my concentration stronger and typically gets me through to the win regardless of the situation.
In any case, I sleep well at night knowing that I play a fair game.
