Shot Clock

I'm surprised I haven't seen much discussion on the impact of the shot clock on the US team. I thought the Euros were much more comfortable with the shot clock than the US.

1. Since no tournaments that I know of use a shot clock, how can the US team get used to it during match level pressure? Practice is one thing but they need to get used to it 'under the gun'.

2. Since tournaments can't afford to have referees at each table, aren't there chess clock type of devices that could be used on each table by the players? This would also help to address slow play even if it was a 1 or 2 min clock.

I created an entire thread that talked about this specific point in regard to the Mosconi Cup. I think it really hurt our team this year because we have at least three players who are generally fairly slow players and it really disrupted their pre-shot routines for sure. The topic didn't get a lot of traction here which is probably why you didn't see it, but I think it was a very important factor int the outcome of the match.

I agree. Even if they shoot the shot in time, the lack of certainty in their mind may cause them not to commit 100% to the shot. I know I find myself with nagging doubts sometimes if I don't consider all possibilities before getting down to shoot.

I think this is a big issue Mark G needs to address. Do you have a link to the thread?

This is why the fearlessness of Sky and Justin stood out so much. Having the mentality to commit and accept what you get as a result makes is a strong place to come from mentally.
