Should I buy a Costco brunswick or a used original Brunswick

Hi,

I am just processing the return of my Costco AH Classic table, because of a cloth issue which they dont seem to be keen on fixing.

I just am debating whether to go for a Costco Brunswick or should I buy an 20-25 years old brunswick ( hopefully original ) and re-felt it with Simonis 860 ?

I would appreciate if people can give feedback of their Costco table experiences v/s Old table with Felt upgrade ( + Cost of replacing the bumpers )

Thanks

You don't give your location and that will matter when it comes to prices. A year and a half ago I bought a mint condition GC IV. That included a new ball box and 860 cloth. This was the first time the table had been recovered.

The installer told me if I did not like the table he would take it down, no charge for anything. He had done two other tables within two blocks of me and was well respected. When set up, I was blown away by how nice it was. My friends all thought it was new. Anyway, $2500 for everything. This was from John Burns in Maryland who is pretty well known in this area. On AZ he goes by Scruffy or Scruffy1.

I'm a geezer so a Gold Crown is what brings back my youth. GC's can be had for under a thousand and up from there. If you buy a Diamond or Brunswick GC you will never be sorry and never want to trade up.

Get a GC 3 or 4 , Costco , although sells some good stuff , the pool tables are made to sell more than play on , just my opinion ...

Go with old. I am told that the new ones are well-designed but not as well-constructed- materials not as good. Furthermore, a reputable mechanic will set up your vintage table perfectly (there is a thread with good mechanics listed). Who is Costco using to set up their tables?

I personally sent back another new, expensive table in the past year before I knew about the used market and mechanics. All documented here. If Costco is letting you out of the deal- run!

See my signature for the details of the quality refurb and guaranteed for life (obviously not wear and tear items), including any re-leveling. There is absolutely no reason to buy a new table when you can get something like this, usually for far less money than comparable or lesser new tables.

I agree with the others, get a used Gold Crown.

it's been said the gold crown 1 is a high level gaming table, above the crown 2 and crown 3.
there wasn't mention of the crown 4 or crown 5.

Possibly the used Gold Crown
I love Costco, they're great if you need a lifetime supply of disposable household products, and seldom used appliances.
The other day I bought a 100-year supply of taco seasoning, I don't know about pool tables, I suppose they would be OK.

Your gc is fabulous, and talking with fastone before
I really didnt want to paint my gcll but after looking at yours and his over it looks like an easy option to bring back mines looks

apart from that just have to get the return system then paint
getting the formica replaced however seems like a tough one, finding someone who can and will want to do it

Thanks. Its a great table, just like playing in a pool hall.
I think I saw your posts before...if you're that guy, don't even worry about painting it or refinishing it in any way. These tables aren't rare so especially if its a little beat up, fix it up. If it were a 100 year old mint, carved wood thing then you wouldn't want to... Good luck!

As long as this year old thread has been resurrected, I wanted to jump back in to sort of answer a question that Tonemachine asked and Cuesblues hinted at.

A friend had bought a table from Costco and then later wanted some 860 put on it and some tuning done.. This time he hired a real mechanic to do the job. Well it turns out that table has a very heavy 3 piece slate of inch and a quarter size. Great for a furniture grade table.

The bad news was they installed all four legs upside down. The long rails were a bit off catching the side pocket horns and the frame kind of drooped to the sides as well.

You can say that you get what you pay for but my GC IV cost less than his Costco after the extra work.

An accurate answer would be impossible to give unless your budget is not a consideration. An older Gold Crown is going to be a better table. But what does the Costco Brunswick cost? What is your top budget?
