just wondering if i might be better served if i switch to Simonis 760 over Simonis 860 for my Gold Crown IV? as your aware, i have the problem of the little "tears" in my 860. these little tears have occurred on my 860 Simonis Green and my 860 Simonis Electric Blue. do any of you guys think Simonis 760 might possibly be better that Simonis 860 in helping to eliminate these little tears?

and what do you guys think of the new color, Powder Blue? wasnt this years World Championships played on Powder Blue? wonder how it would look on my GCIV?

As far as color, I considered putting a different color on my table but decided to go with traditional green. I dont know how much of a difference playing on a different color would make, and I didnt want to take a chance to find out :)

For the tears in the cloth, what is causing it? I would think that if you are putting a tear in 860 you would also tear 760.

Woody is right.

760 is actually a finer cloth than 860, so it would actually tear a little bit easier. Also, you would find that you would have a more difficult time jumping balls on 760 (Simonis says it's because the cloth is actually physically thinner) 860 was constructed by simonis in order to make it easier to jump balls(or so the story goes)...

Not to mention, the fact that it's thinner, and the weave is finer would also change the way you play....the cueball moves like a greased pig on 760, so when you moved to 860, you'd find you would be getting decidely different action from your stroke.

Stick with 860, on the average, when my table was set up, practicing 3-4 hours a day, I would go through a bed of 860 every 6 months. In addition, little tears (not quite what you describe I think) would show up on mine after about 3 months....from what I've heard from the higher end table mechanics, it's from having the ever so slightest mushroom on your tip and stroking a power draw shot (though, I would hope the cloth would be tougher than that).

Just my 2 cents DCP. Have you thought about calling Tom, and relating your experiences? Perhaps he's familiar with the problem you're encountering?

I have to agree with PigCarver. Moving to a Simonis 760 will definitly make the cue ball move way faster than you'd be used too. On our table at the house, we have a Valley Bar table with Simonis 860 on it and I love it. I think most pollrooms around here that do use Simonis cloth, use 860. Of course, that's here in Oklahoma. We've had the cloth on our table well over 6 months, and not a single tear in the in cloth. And that's with 2 people playing 3 to 4 hours at a time on it.
