Anyone know first- or second-hand how long the static electicity-gathering pad might be expected to last, given adherence to mfgr.-recommended regular emptying and/or vacuuming out of the pad? The novel invention has only been around for a few years so maybe there’s not much available predictive data or durable life testing.

Or, best case, there’s no long-term breakdown of the proprietary material that the pad is made from? The material’s technology must be way beyond Swiffer material.

It wouldn’t seem a sound business practice to eventually offer X-1 replacement pads (if needed at all), since handy folks would buy only the pad then fabricate a holder for it.

Just curious.

The pad is not detachable, so I don't know how one would install a replacement.
You don't put pressure on it, so there is little wear.
I expect mine to last indefinitely.
Or at least far longer than a brush with the bristles falling out.

The recommended "cleaning" process is to slap it against a flat surface to get the chalk dust out of the cleaning surface. Been using one for close to a year now, very regularly, and it still works very good. however, the biggest use of it is if you use baby power on your hands like the Filipino players. This takes the power right out of the felt. Chalk marks are cleaned very well too, but a good wipe down with a damp microfiber cloth works just as well in my opinion.

Reviews of the X-1 cloth cleaner began in 2009

I found a 2009 AZB thread indicating that the product was introduced in the US at the 2009 BCA Expo, then became widely available from dealers in subsequent months later in the year:

Seems there are a fair number of AZB-ers who've used (or sold -- in the case of dealers who post regularly) the X-1 for more than 3 years and might want to helpfully add their comments to this thread about the X-1's likely longevity or continued functioning & durability over the years.
