Still not sure if it's supposed to be called a Hoppe or a Rambow Ring. Is there a true difference? Either way this is my first Skip cue. Nice Rosewood with bright veneeers and the Ivory Ring. Skip makes a great playing cue IMO.

Hoppe, or Rambow

I'll take a stab at it. Lets say for argument sake, that the only 2 colors are white, and black.

The hoppe ring has a black buttcap, can be big, or small then the white hoppe ring.

A rambow ring is a thin white ring that is the buttcap, and then black.

Yes I've seen rambows that are hoppe style. but I've seen more of what I discribe.

My understanding is that when Rambow and Hoppe designed the "Willie Hoppe Professional" cues for Brunswick, Hoppe wanted an ivory ring on the cue, so he got it. Perhaps Rambow actually thought of it and Hoppe thought it was a good idea - probably a bit of information that is lost in history. The early Hoppe Professionals had the ivory ring, then it was an option, then by the late '50s or '60s it was no longer an available option.

I would call it a "Hoppe" ring, because the "Willie Hoppe Professional" cue was the first to have it...as far as I know. :)

This cue has one of Skips more popular point wood combinations. Great looking traditional cue.

Just looking at the points, it looks like a Brunswick Greenleaf to me, but the butt is a Hoppe, I will post few Rambow butts for you also.

I Like your, it is the best I have seen.... I love Skips work, I have two cues by him, both are Bushka titlist. Bugs. :D

That first cue you posted is not a Greenleaf - I own it and it's a Titlist blank cue.

It don't have any green or blue in the points? I was told no green/blue in point was a Greenleaf. Who know this history truly? LOL :o
