Slate trouble

I purchased a Murray 7 footer recently with plans to refurbish it for the poolhall I just opened. I have 600 worth of new rails and cloth coming in the next week or 2. The problem is it appears that the slate is bowed slightly and my question is how do you know when a slate is to far gone to save. I don't really have the option of replacing it because there are only a handful of bar tables on the island . Any insights you could share would be greatly appreciated.
