Sleeve Ivory Ferrule

I am using an Ivorene Ferrule and was wondering if its possible to trim it and put an ivory sleeve ?

Well of coarse you can but why would you possibly want to? Ivory is much more prone to crack than Ivorene, so if you would rather have ivory then put on ivory but put it on as thick as you can to make it stronger to help hinder cracking, not just a veneer to make it look good.

Like I said, why a sleeve? If your looking for lighter weight for less deflection then either the all ivory or the all Ivorine is lighter, the combination certainly isn't but it is weaker.

I agree with Dick that it will not be a good idea to sleeve the ivory ferrules. I have found that a 5/16 dia. tenon uncapped ferrule, without a pad works fine. I have only had to replace two ferrules in over 10 years and both happened about the same time so I think the ivory was bad to start with. I did not charge to replace the ferrules because I could see that the shafts had not been abused or neglected.
