In a recent thread, someone was wanting a slitting saw/arbor combination capable of cutting thru standard 1.375" x .75" tubing. That seemed like a good idea, and since I've not yet been prompt enough to score one of KJ's mandrels, I had a machinist friend custom make such a mandrel for me. The mandrel is made out of stainless steel. It has a 10mm arbor which will accomodate the 40mm OD carbide slitting saw blades sold by globalmallus on Ebay. The arbor height is .125 so it will accomodate blade thicknesses up to 3mm (globalmallus sells 40mm OD carbide blades ranging in thickness from .5mm up to 3mm). The shank is .248 to fit 1/4" collet tools. The mandrel OD is .590 which gives just under 1/2" cutting debth. Attached are some photos. If anyone is interested in obtaining one of these mandrels, let me know. If there is sufficient interest, my friend will make more of these mandrels for $45 each, shipped CONUS. He is a full time machinist and says he can fill small orders in about a week. I've not done anything like this before and all I want to do at this point is get a list of interested AZBr's. If there is a dozen or more people interested, he'll make them. I won't collect money till I have the arbors in hand ready to ship. Also, I invite any recommendations regarding the dimensions etc of the arbor. Now is the time to make any design changes, so please give any input you think is important.
