Smallest "tournament" in history!

I heard about a bar that was having a tournament on Sundays. Also heard that no one would go to it because it was single elimination and a set prize amount. Heard only one player showed up last week, etc.

So I thought I would go and give them some tips on how they could change their tournament so more players would go to their tournament. This would be closer to me, so I would save on gas if they could get a good tournament going.

So I show up and ask if they were having a tournament. They said yes. So I warm-up. Then time for tournament to start and the guy says only three players will be playing. We said OK.

So I played this other guy and won. Then the bartender said the third player had left, and for us to go ahead and play for the winner. (With a serious face, I asked if he was still paying first and second. He looked at me funny and said there were only two players! So first only.)

So I play the same guy and win again....

So we had a two player 50% added tournament! ($5 entry so I got $20.)

I felt kind of silly taking the money. ( I volunteered to help them set up a real tournament BTW.)

That's a good thing that they held it anyway. The other night I went to a local tournament and myself and one other guy showed up about an hour before to practice. While we were practicing, there were AT LEAST 6 phone calls where I heard the bartender say, "no, doesn't look like we'll have enough people". Which means we would have had 8, that's not a bad tourney.

At least you didn't have to crawl your way through the loser's side. :)

Wasn't it single elimination? After you won your first match didn't that constitute a win? :D Sounds like you got the bad end of the stick, but managed to gather a little Fire inside and come out on top. :D :) :D

Haha... the guy that you beat is probably bragging to all of his friends that he made it to the finals of a pool tournament! I know I would be! :D

Yes it was single elimination and fixed 1st and 2nd prize, but was changed in the middle of the tournament to double elimination, 1st place prize only, and 100% added (the guy thought it was 50% added).

Anyway this is the reason no one is playing in the tournament. (Everyone warned me to stay away.) But I am going to work with him to get a real tournament going, then the other players will come and play. It will be closer and reduce my gas mileage cost. So to my advantage.

Well I'm going around telling everyone I won 1st place :D . I expect my opponent is telling everyone he took 2nd!

I did learn something from all this though, and that is you can have a tournament with fewer than 6 people. In the past we have canceled tournaments if less than 6 people showed up.

So from now on, if 2 people show up, and I am running the tournament, we will play! (I'll need to work out how many spots are payed ahead of time, but should be no big deal....)
