Sneaky Pete's...

There is a guy in Canada here that makes really nice cues. His name is Kevin DeRoo. He qouted me $350 CDN. He also has the option on most of his cues for a 6 inch extension. I haven't had the chance to play with one yet, but everyone tells me his cues are some of the best. Go to www.deroocues.com to see some of his work.

I play with a cue I bought second hand for forty bucks. It's a Sneaky Pete, or hustler cue as I call it. Made by Bryan Mordt out of Phoenix. The only reason I bought it was because fat Nick was begging me to, saying he needed some cash. I hit a couple balls with it and said OK. After playing with it for a couple of weeks, I could't put it down. I guess it just fits my game for some reason. The rub is, it was two days after I ordered a fricken 500 dollar Schon that is still sitting in my closet, next to the 300 dollar Meucci. It's not always the price tag that you look at. If a cue "works" for you, you gotta go with it.

Hicks used to make a good hitting true sneaky-pete, not sure if he still does these. Also a FL cue maker named Garvey Fowler makes extremely nice sp's for a couple hundred $(Kennedy and a lot of FL players have owned "Garvey's").

But if you want to be a big target of ball beaters. buy a $500 Justis Case and a couple cheap Lucasi cues to put in it. Then add a few APA Stickers and you would qualify to get the last 4 anywhere around here :)

He actually has a website and makes a very nice looking cue. The site is:
http://www.bcmcue.com/

Might make one of his my next cue.

Ruthless- the Justise case with the APA stickers and Lucasi cues is hilarious, and so true!!! Hicks Stix in Illinois? He is mainly recovering tables all over the MidWest right now, but still makes sneaky petes.

BCM cues do look great, but I've never played with one myself.

Neither have I but you could ask Chucklez65 about Bryans cues. He knows him and said that he has played with one before.

Zim,

Thats the one :)

When I was still managing a room, I would order 5-10 Hicks s.p.'s from Jeff and sell them all in a week. He had good quality for a working man's price range. That was before he started putting his label on them and I still see a few around 12 yrs later.

Also a BIG Salute to you and all that serve the U.S., Thanks :)

Thanks Ruthless! Hicks still makes cues. An Air Force buddy of mine buys about 12/year and sells them. They sell for I think $150 and play great. To me they are worth around $225-$250, but I wont complain.

Andy Gilbert makes the best three piece sneaky pete on the market I think. As for just sneaky petes try Jacoby Cues, they sell for around $200 I believe. Bob Fry, he used to work with Tim Scruggs, makes them also. Actualy Tim Scruggs told me to call him when I asked Tim to make one for me. Bob's phone # is 4107477392. I had one of his cues I gave $50 for but traded off and hate myself for the cue played awesome. That's all I can think of off hand but I will think about it some more.

In your opinions, who makes the best (traditional) Sneaky Pete? I'm looking at carrying (selling) a custom sneaky pete, not to exceed $300 each.
Any suggestions?

Zim

i have heard, though never played with, that scruggs and harris make great sneaky petes. this seems to be a universal opinion.

the best meuccis i've ever played with were sneaky pete meuccis.

gilbert definetly has the best break/jump in my book, but try looking into Blackcreek customs in Illinois. Travis has sneakys for right around 250-300.

Sneaky Petes do not really exist anymore.
Well, not the old way to make them anyway.
A cut-down house cue is the poor man's version of the overrated full-splice cues now.
Now, if you really want a sneaky pete, get one of those Marlboro, Pam Anderson or Budweiser cues. Have a good cuemaker sleeve the cue with rock maple, change the handle with a quality rock maple, change the pin and insert, re-collar the butt and the shaft, replace the ferrule with Ivor-X or any quality ferrule and replace the tip. And of course get a shaft made but dye it yellow. :D
You walk into any poolhall with that crappy looking cue, you won't get any respect.:p

that's a great idea!!!

or get a rose colored mali
