3.4 million pounds plus the worlds and masters events, not to mention sponsorship. I don't think any of the men will be coming over soon.

Someone mentioned that the reason pool doesn't do well is because nobody wants to watch it on TV. Well arguably some snooker frames become very tactical and boring as hell to most people but it still gets huge coverage in the UK, Asia, probably canada etc..

Its so sad that pool can't sort its house out and start atracting the sponsors. The way I see it from all the great info gained from this board the US and canada have at least ten big competitions and the IBC world tour is having a good go. Why can't someone group all these tournaments together in the US/Canada and make a tour, with possibly a handful of events in other countries like snooker has been doing in China/Thailand etc..

There's no reason why you couldn't have a North American, European and Asian tour. Then you could have a super cup type comp between the best of each tour each year.

I think the image excuse is crap and there's millions of people that would watch the game on TV. To me its just the politics and getting someone who knows the right people to pull it all together.

frankly i don't think it's the "image" thing,,,people will watch anything on tv...have you seen all these "reality" shows crap that took over the media lately...wut a load of BS..snooker is quite popular here..they show the world embassy snooker..the Canadian champion snooker (before or when it's televised etc.)

the demographics are bad in the US. if there was anything for companies to tap into, they would. it's all about money after all.

also, you have to seperate those who play in bar leagues or buy home tables, and those who watch pool and are aficionados of the professional game. these are two seperate entities. the billiard industry is quick to point out pool's growth, but that does not transalate into the professional arena.

north america is not where it's at, and would be a money losing proposition.

the image is surprisingi think. i always thought the bad image perception was relegated to the older generation. but there was a post elsewhere about a guy who got beat up because the bar patrons thought he was hustling them.

i also think the problem with pool is that pool people are trying to promote it.

the problem with pool is that it doesn't get enough if any pool coverage on tv. I see more freakin dog shows and spelling Bee's than pool...wtf Dog Show on sports Channel?....how the heck is this exactly a sport.

reality shows catch a better crowd than pool. simple as that. i think it might have been addressed before but,,,,espn uses pool as filler. that is the perception. it's different in asia, though.

OK if that is the case, and it may well be. Why does snooker draw people to watch it, is it more exciting - probably not! Don't forget the 1985 snooker final still holds one of the largest sporting audiences in the UK, around 20 million views watched the final frame, yes thats 1/3 the population of the UK. And the kicker is, it happened at 1am in the morning!!!

So to me either

a) America has placed all its bets on the wrong game (9 ball) which just doesn't excite people like snooker (I doubt this even though I do think nine ball has serious flaws)

or

b) Its just not being marketed by the right people?

Does anyone know what the viewing figues are like in the UK for pool, the recent wpc maybe?

Of course it may just be that "Americans" don't like watching pool/cue sports on TV?

maybe they should televvise8-ball instead...since it;s more "popular" so it's a more recognisable game on tv. This will also eliminate those stupid "bar" rules that seems every one has their own version of.
