it's semantics,,,but for me soft/hard has to do with tip/ferrule/wood/joint. and i differentiate soft/hard from "stiff" which i define as shaft and shaft taper....but that's me.
extreme hard,,, water buffalo tip/aegis ferrule/SS joint/ebony nose. and any other hard element you can add to a cue like hard bumper. it all adds up.
extreme soft,,,whatever soft tip(i don't know, i don't use them)/plastic ferrule/phenolic joint/ etc etc.
most cuemakers use melamine ferrules which are harder than plastic i think. and they use le pros or something similiar, but le pro is standard in many cases.
